Feb 03, 2020 · I'm sure there is someone out there that uses an impact driver for their lug nuts, but it is the wrong tool for the job, and similarly you wouldn't want a 1/2" drive impact wrench then use reducer adapters for 1/4" bits if you didn't have to because of the size, the wobble of using an adapter, risk of breaking fasteners, etc.

I was able to jack the car up but I had the hardest time getting the lug nuts off. I did end up being successful but it literally took all afternoon.

They only list torque specs because they are required to. But good and tight is all that's needed.

Jan 16, 2020 · Invest in a Breaker Bar and short piece of pipe to get additional "umph" if you don't want to invest in a power tool. I use a Ryobi 1/2" impact driver and am able to bust not only my trailer lug nuts, torqued to 120 fp, but also my tow vehicle's lug nuts, torqued to 165 fp.
I have several Ryobi 18v tools, and the impact driver (not wrench) couldn't loosen my lug nuts, which are torqued to 138nm, despite its rating of ~260nm for a memory. I chose a supercheap air impact wrench rated to ~500nm, as it was less than half the price of the ryobi skin, had more grunt and sounds cool too.
The Ryobi p261 isn't a power horse by any means, but it is a functional cordless impact wrench that will get the job done. It works better to drive fasteners than it does for removing lug nuts unless it's on the highest power. There are good specifications that are comparable to others in its class.
Removing lug nuts on the truck to rotate tires looks something like a nascar pitstop. Much overkill for anything on the bike. That said; if you got a 3/8" air line and big connectors, your pancake compressor would probably run a decent air gun long enough to loosen a bolt.
